I was grateful for the opportunity to recognize Michael, his family and our award finalists in today’s heartfelt ceremony.”
Who was Michael Frumovitz?
Michael Frumovitz, M.D., was a gynecologic oncologist and professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He passed away on July 25, 2024, after more than 20 years of service at MD Anderson.
Dr. Frumovitz was known for his expertise in rare gynecologic tumors and played a crucial role in founding the Rare Tumor Program at the institution.He was highly regarded for his compassionate patient care, mentorship, and contributions to medical education. As Chief Patient Experience Officer, he focused on enhancing the human experience for patients and their families.
Dr. Frumovitz authored nearly 190 peer-reviewed articles and held significant leadership roles, including directing the MD Anderson Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship.In honor of his legacy, an endowment has been established to support clinical research, education, and training in gynecologic oncology, particularly focusing on rare tumors. His work has left a lasting impact on the field and the many patients he served.

Peter Pisters leads The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, driving research in cardiology, transplantation, neurosciences, oncology, surgical innovation, infectious diseases, genomic medicine, and rehabilitation medicine.
