Gustaf Salford and Elekta in honor of Dan Leksell’s memory
Gustaf Salford, President and CEO at Elekta, shared Elekta‘s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Ever since I joined Elekta, almost 15 years ago, Danny has been a strong presence. Not just as a mentor, a pioneer who played an integral part in changing neurosurgery forever, but also as a visionary – always with the customer’s and their patients’ best interest in mind. He was always there to give advice on where we should focus and prioritize. But he was also there for so many of us on a personal level – with his kindness, support, and encouragement. I know many of us at Elekta feel that we have lost a true friend. We will carry his legacy onwards by keep thinking forward and honor his memory by driving the field of Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Leksell Gamma Knife treatments around the world. ”
Quoting Elekta‘s post:
“We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Dr. Dan Leksell. Our thoughts go to his family and friends all over the world.
Danny worked alongside his father Lars Leksell and brother Larry Leksell to build the foundation of Elekta. He has played a paramount role in shaping our company into what it is today.
He also founded and was the chairman of the Leksell Gamma Knife Society for 30 years until his retirement in 2019. During his insightful leadership, encouraging collaboration between Gamma Knife practitioners worldwide, the awareness and acceptance of intracranial radiosurgery increased significantly, and more than 1.5 million patients have received treatment globally. Today, the society has over 2000 members and is still dominating the radiosurgery literature globally.
Danny was a true visionary and believer. He will be missed by all his friends at Elekta, and within the medical community where he was respected as one of the pioneers behind the Leksell Stereotactic System and the Leksell Gamma Knife. We will honor his memory by carrying his vision forward and continue to innovate future generations of stereotactic radiosurgery – and beyond.”
