“Well-designed multicenter randomised clinical trials are paramount to collect evidence and to improve awareness and education on Palliative Care.
At the ESMO24, data from three studies contributed to increase the knowledge in terms of pharmacologic interventions targeting cancer and treatment-related symptoms in areas where evidence was still scarce or inconsistent.
Research in this field is however not only highly needed in terms of interventions, but also regarding policies, organisational models and delivery.

Rita Canario is a Medical Oncology Consultant at Vila Nova de Gaia Hospital Center and IPO de Coimbra. She is also a Teaching Assistant at the University of Coimbra. As a PhD student, she is involved in cancer metastasis research at the i3S – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, working with the Oncogenetics Group and the Cancer Biology and Epigenetics Group at the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (IPO-Porto).
