“At the International Conference on Cancer Nursing organised by the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care, nurses representing Tbilisi, Greater Petaling and Kigali shared their experience with C/Can’s initiatives for empowering and supporting the work of nurses in cancer care. Their testimonies confirmed that impact on the ground is directly linked to individuals’ professional and personal development. They highlighted the importance of nursing education and leadership as a mindset and a set of skills that all nurses should cultivate to provide the best possible care.
Our projects in these cities have produced great results.
For example, in Rwanda thanks to the development of a patient navigation programme training, nurses have supported the improvement in initiation of treatment, with 92% of patients starting treatment within 90 days after diagnosis. Together with stakeholders and implementation partners like Icon Group, we are working to overcome the challenges that nurses face in multidisciplinary teams and cancer care in our network of cities.
We want to express our gratitude to all the exceptional nurses who have made this possible, with special thanks to Ani Khmaladze, Nur Nadia Renu Abdullah, Dr Margaret Fitch, Margie Hjorth and Martha Ordoñez.”
