Roupen Odabashian: Clinical Decision Augmentation and not support

Roupen Odabashian shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Clinical Decision Augmentation and not support.

Over the last several months, I’ve explored various clinical decision support tools like OpenEvidence, PathwayMD, and Glass Health. These tools are useful for quickly finding answers to specific questions that arise during patient consultations. However, I believe we need to go beyond these tools.

We need clinical decision augmentation tools that integrate with electronic medical records EMRs to provide a comprehensive view.

These tools should be capable of synthesizing data to identify diagnoses that physicians might overlook.

They should also detect deficiencies or abnormalities in patient charts that might escape human observation.

As physicians, we might miss a diagnosis or overlook a blood work value that could carry important significance. We need tools to augment our eyes and minds to see the full picture.

This is the gap in the market that needs addressing.

One tool I know of is Epic offers a sepsis detection algorithm that I haven’t found useful in real life.

I don’t know if such tools exist but happy to see them work in real life.”
