On World Humanitarian Day we add our voices to the call to protect all cancer patients in war-torn regions who are innocent bystanders of war.

We ask you to support our Manifesto on Improving Cancer Care in Conflict-Impacted Populations, published in The Lancet and European Cancer Organisation.

“UICC condemns all attacks on healthcare facilities and workers.

We stand in solidarity with those affected in conflict zones and call for humanitarian law to be upheld so that health and cancer care remain accessible.”

Professor Mark Lawler holds the positions of Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor of Digital Health, and Chair in Translational Cancer Genomics at the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). He serves on the Board of the European Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM) and was instrumental in developing EAPM’s research strategy.

Additionally, he is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Cancer Patient Coalition and the Strategic Advisory Board of Genomics England. His expertise includes genetics, precision medicine, health data, COVID-19, cancer, and patient and public involvement in research.
