“‘I was very lucky in meeting Professor Ros Eeles – because basically, she saved my life’
Tony was diagnosed with prostate cancer while taking part in a clinical trial offering regular screening for men at increased risk.
He had been invited by Professor Eeles to take part in the IMPACT study in 2012 after finding out he carried the BRCA2 gene mutation. As part of the international trial, he underwent regular blood tests to look for signs of prostate cancer. Around 18 months later, the screening unexpectedly revealed that he had developed the disease.
He shared his story alongside Professor Eeles at our recent Summer Reception, where we welcomed more than 60 donors and supporters for an inspiring evening highlighting the impact of our pioneering prostate cancer research.
The conversation was led by GIRLvsCANCER founder and You, Me and the Big C podcast host, Lauren Mahon, who was awarded an honorary doctorate from the ICR in 2022.
