“I’m honored to join the Optilater International Advisory Board, a groundbreaking consortium dedicated to enhancing long-term care for cancer survivors throughout Germany.
Funded by the Federal Ministry of Health, Optilater is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of people affected by cancer nationwide.
The consortium will lead comprehensive research to assess the current state of cancer survivorship care in Germany.
Armed with these insights, the team will establish a long-term program to address the diverse needs of cancer survivors, including nutrition, exercise, psycho-oncology, social medicine, specialised medical care and more.”

“We are pleased to introduce Claire Wakefield, as the next member of our international Advisory Board.
Prof. Wakefield heads the Behavioural Sciences Unit at the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital in Australia.
Her research interests include improving the mental health and quality of life of families affected by serious illness through cost-effective interventions, novel technologies, and discovery underserved groups.
Translational work aims to bring about changes in clinical practice. Research interests include health psycholohy, palliative care, advance care planning, precision medicine, genomic sequencing, cancer predispositions, patient education, supporting families through difficult medical decisions, and challenges for children wirh complex needs.
Currently, the focus is on paediatric oncology research. Her focus includes newly diagnosed families, post-treatment families, long-term survivors, and bereaved carers.
Prof. Wakefield is a valuable member of our international Advisory Board, providing her expertise to support our project.”

Claire Wakefield is the continental president of SIOP (International Society of Pediatric Oncology) – Oceania. She is a medical psychologist who leads research to improve quality of life for families affected by cancer. She is a Professor at the School of Clinical Medicine at UNSW and Director of the Behavioural Sciences Unit at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Australia.
She is the Chair of the International Psycho-Oncology Society Paediatrics Committee, supporting psychologists who work with children with cancer globally as well as serving as Co-Director of Child Unlimited, which is a network of >200 child health experts across Australia.
