An empowering day at the State House with the Rhode Island Medical Society and Students for a National Health Program – The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University shared on LinkedIn:

“An empowering day at the State House with the Rhode Island Medical Society and Students for a National Health Program! This tour affirmed the incredible influence our students wield in shaping policy and driving positive change in patient outcomes.

Reflecting on the impact of social and political factors on patient care, Reed Junkin MD ’26, one of the tour’s organizers, shared insights, ‘Many physicians experience burnout due to the significant impact of social and political factors on patient outcomes beyond direct care. While acknowledging the slow pace of the political process, knowing that I possess the potential to influence policy that improves patient and physician experience is empowering and brings a sense of responsibility.

It reinforces the idea that as a medical professional, I can extend my impact beyond individual patient care by advocating for changes that prioritize patient well-being, community health, and promote equitable and accessible healthcare for all.’

A special thanks to Stacy Paterno, VP of RIMS, and Steve DeToy, Director of Gov. and Public Affairs at RIMS, for expertly guiding our students through this enlightening tour.”
