Guillermo Chantada: Many lives were saved thanks a project which has now evolved into the ARIA guide

”The International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) started the project for adapted treatment guidelines about 15 years ago. At that time, what it is now well-accepted in the pediatric oncology community that not all treatments proposed in high income countries would yield to similar results in low and middle income settings, was an extremely innovative and provocative idea. Trijn Israels lead this project back then and now we see its deep impact worldwide. Many lives were saved thanks to this project which has now evolved into the ARIA guide in association with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Global, IPSO, PROS and Childhood Cancer International.”

Guillermo Chantada is the Scientific Director of the Fundacion Perez Scremini in Montevideo, Uruguay, and the Hospital Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Additionally, he holds the position of an associated physician at the Servicio de Oncología at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona. His main research interests are in neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma, and pediatric lymphomas. Dr Chantada is the President of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) and the Head Outreach Program at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.
