Amy C Moore Highlights Persistent Challenges in Lung Cancer Survival and Research

Amy C Moore, Director of Patient Engagement and Advocacy at Summit Therapeutics, shared a post by Cancer Grand Challenges on LinkedIn, adding:

“While these data are a little old (only going through 2018), lung cancer survival still lags dramatically behind the other major cancers. Despite being the top cancer killer globally, lung cancer research remains significantly underfunded. Advances in precision medicine and immunotherapy over the past 20 years are improving quality of life and extending survival, but gaps remain. Early detection is key to catching lung cancer at its earliest stages when it is most treatable and the likelihood of a positive outcome is better.”

Quoting Cancer Grand Challenges‘s post:

” “Michelle Mitchell, chief executive of Cancer Research UK (CRUK), “Thanks to research, most patients today are far more likely to survive cancer than at any other point in the past. But the reality is that this progress is slowing – and for some cancers it never got going in the first place.”

This week’s research on cancer trends highlights the tremendous strides the research community has made against certain cancers, but also how much we still need to understand.

Cancer Grand Challenges was founded to take on the toughest challenges in cancer research that no single researcher, institution or country can overcome alone.

Find out about what our teams have discovered over the last 12 months, and the potential for how this could shape cancer research in the future.”
