Tunji Alausa: Call to action to reduce breast cancer prevalance in Nigeria’a Ekiti State

Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, shared on X:

Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer affecting the citizens of Nigeria. Prevention, advocacy, and increased awareness are key strategies to reduce the prevalence of breast cancer.

That’s why it was important for me to join my dear friend, H.E. Biodun Oyebanji, Governor of Government of Ekiti State, and H.E Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, First Lady of Ekiti State to commission a mammography machine at the Funmi Olayinka Diagnostic and Wellness Centre, located at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti.

The commissioning ceremony of the centre’s new mammography machine further raises awareness about the availability of screening, diagnostic capabilities, treatment, and other general services the centre provides.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts to ensure healthcare centres in Ekiti are well-equipped with the necessary medical devices and consumables to deliver quality healthcare to his citizens are highly commendable. His commitment underscores dedication to providing for his citizens.

I’d also like to commend the work of Dr. Oyebanji Filani, Commissioner for Health & Human Services and Chairman of the Commissioners of Health Forum, for his efforts to revive hospitals and healthcare centres in his state.

We cannot continue with such a high level of cancer-related mortality. Early detection can save lives. Therefore, I urge the citizens of Ekiti State to take advantage of this centre.”
