Carmen Monge-Montero: I had the honor of visiting Fundación Camino in Santiago

Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and patient advocate at Youth Cancer Europe, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Hi Network!

Over the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to experience more than 10 cancer care systems around the world—sometimes as a patient, and other times as a cancer advocate. Thanks to my amazing network, I try to visit one of these systems every time I travel.

Why do I like to visit them? For many reasons, but especially because I get inspired by the incredible people dedicated to helping others and by the thoughtfully designed facilities and services.

This week, I had the honor of visiting Fundación Camino in Santiago, Chile, thanks to my friends from Luz de Esperanza. This center supports families with accommodation and provides all kinds of support—social, emotional, and physical. The facilities are top-notch, including a large kitchen, playroom, comfortable rooms, and much more.

We had a meeting with individuals living with and beyond cancer, and their families. The aim was to connect with those who are just starting their cancer journey, offering hope and answers to their questions. We shared our personal cancer journeys, and I talked about my work at Youth Cancer Europe as an advocate and researcher in the European Network of Youth Cancer Survivors (EU-CAYAS) project, my YouTube channel Mano Sobrevivientes (which features interviews with Pablo Allard and Carla Soto from Luz de Esperanza), and my book “Can-Can and the Adventure of Mìng Island.”

Thank you, Pablo and Carla, for the invitation, and to all my new friends for making me feel so welcome. ”
