Meet Brandon Bwengye, a nine-year-old boy from Western Uganda – CANCaRe Africa
shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Meet Brandon Bwengye, a nine-year-old boy from Bushenyi district, Western Uganda, who was diagnosed with blood cancer (acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital last year.
Brandon has three siblings; two brothers and a sister. The mother used to run a shop in Bushenyi town, but closed it to take care of him. She now stays at their home, located about two hours away from Mbarara Hospital.
Brandon weathered through many severe complications during his initial leukaemia treatment, thanks to the parents’ endurance and the dedicated health workers at the hospital. He has started his long-term maintenance treatment that he takes largely from home and gets to visit the hospital only once a month.
Brandon is happy that he is able to go to school now and his mother is eternally grateful for her son’s second chance at life. She is happy that Brandon responded to treatment and hopes he will make a complete recovery.
Appropriate consent given.”
