Arif Kamal: With all due respect to Taylor Swift, I think oncology cornered the market on the use of the word ‘Eras’ several decades ago
Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“With all due respect to Taylor Swift, I think oncology cornered the market on the use of the word ‘Eras’ several decades ago.
Oncology care is rapidly shifting, and supportive care (in all its forms) has been critical to those shifts.
At the American Society for Radiation Oncology annual meeting, I shared my thoughts on the current era we’re in, where I believe professionalized compassion will drive further advancements in cancer delivery.
I titled the keynote, ‘Cancer Support 3.0 – a New Era in Compassion’ to highlight where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’ll need to go to meet our ethos of ‘ending cancer as we know it, for everyone’. While my tone is aspirational, the solutions are in reach.
But we will need to continue discussing the compelling social, emotional, spiritual, relational, and logistical challenges our friends and neighbors are facing.
Appreciate the invitation of Michalski Jeff and Lorna Lucas to come out to speak with the passionate professionals in radiation oncology.”
