Claire Gould: Meet Xena, The Mani Lab’s Xenium machine!

Claire Gould, Research Assistant in The Mani Lab at Brown University, shared on LinkedIn:

“Meet Xena,
The Mani Lab’s Xenium machine!

In Sendurai Mani’s lab at Brown University, we look at cancer at the single cell level to find gene expression patterns that could help us decipher and treat cancer, especially in the context of EMT, cancer stem cells, and metastasis. Our Xenium (10x Genomics) allows us to profile for RNA transcripts at sub-cellular resolution with spatial context.

During my undergrad, a lot of my days were spent performing 4 day long in situ hybridizations on lamprey embryo to identify gene expression during development.

Now, as a Research Assistant, I get to lead projects in the Mani lab using machines like Xena, which performs high throughput in situ hybridization through the use of highly specific probes to a panel of RNA targets, that, combined with high resolution imaging, allows us to analyze patient tumor samples at the single cell level.”
