Pia Henkel’s Research Reveals How Precision Diagnostics Can Be Scaled Cost-Effectively
Pia Henkel, PhD Research Fellow in Health Economic Evaluation at University of Oslo, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published on The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics:
“From Learning to Insight: First PhD paper alert
2 years ago, I would not have known the meaning of next-generation sequencing and genomic profiling. Today, I am very happy to share that our Microcosting Study of Genomic Profiling for Precision Cancer Medicine: Application from the National Infrastructure for Precision Diagnostics in Norway is now available as an article in press.
Working on this project has been a fantastic start into my PhD on Economic evaluation of next-generation sequencing in oncology, where I am a part of the ASCERTAIN project. Thanks to my wonderful and helpful co-authors I have certainly learned a lot about genomic profiling, its importance for precision cancer medicine, and the diagnostic workflow at Oslo University Hospital and the InPreD environment.
Our study highlights which components contribute most to the resource use in genomic profiling, how automation can help reduce costs, and what needs to be considered when scaling up capacity. I am super curious to continue and use the insights of this study in upcoming work.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or just want to discuss micro-costing, health economics in precision cancer medicine or related topics.”
Svetlana Nikic, Founder at Precision Oncology Consulting, shared Pia Henkel’s, adding:
“Excellent study (in my view one of the most comprehensive studies) on microcosting analysis of genomic profiling with detailed cost breakdowns from Norway.”
