Prashant Mathur, Director and Medical Researcher at NCDIR, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published on JAMA Network:
“The National Cancer Registry Investigator Group publishes the statistics on cancer incidence, mortality, patterns and trends for India
- Data between 2015-2020 collected from 43 population based cancer registries covering 43 distinct Geographic regions of the country. 5 states fully covered:Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and TamilNadu
- Reporting on 708,223 cancer cases and 206,457 cancer related deaths for all sites of cancers
- Breast and cervical cancers were most frequent among women
- Oral (mouth) and lung cancers were most common among men.
- The Northeast region displayed distinct cancer patterns, with oesophageal, nasopharyngeal, and stomach cancers being common.
- The study estimated 1.56 million new cancer cases and 0.87 million deaths in India for 2024.
