The EHMA – European Health Management Association, as part of the EPACT Alliance activities, has published a policy paper which examines the challenges of manual hospital medication processes and their impact on patient safety, staff wellbeing, and system efficiency.
It provides evidence on the benefits of digitalisation, presents case studies, and outlines eight policy recommendations to guide future action. This vision roadmap policy paper:
- Highlights how digitalisation can reduce errors, enhance operational efficiency, and relieve administrative burdens.
- Details where hospitals can turn for critical support, showcasing opportunities through EU funding instruments such as the Recovery and Resilience Facility, EU4Health, Digital Europe, and Cohesion Policy Funds.
- Shares real-world case studies from Italy, Germany, Ireland, and Ukraine to demonstrate tangible success in system reform.
- Reinforces a collaborative call to action with 8 policy recommendations, urging EU institutions, national governments and hospital leadership to prioritise this transformation for safer and more resilient healthcare systems.
