Jennifer Cohen: Capturing Young Cancer Experiences and Outcomes
Jennifer Cohen, Head of Evaluation at Canteen Australia, shared on LinkedIn:
“My presentation, ‘Listening to young voices: Using patient reported measures to understand adolescent and young adult experiences and outcomes from a community-based cancer supportive care service’, at day 1 of the Cancer Institute NSW Cancer Summit, highlights how patient reported measures are helping us better understand and improve Canteen Australia cancer support services for young people.
I shared insights from Canteen’s implementation of PRMs to capture the experiences and outcomes of young people impacted by cancer. The data tells a powerful story:
- 92% reported a positive experience with services
- 99% would recommend Canteen
- Improvements in coping, isolation, and well-being
We’re also building a robust Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework to support the ongoing and systematic collection of impact data. This framework will help us embed continuous feedback loops into service delivery, ensuring that young people’s voices are not only heard, but actively shape how we design and improve our support.
Thanks to everyone who attended and engaged with our work. Let’s keep listening, learning, and improving cancer care together.”
