Wafaa M Rashed: African Women Scientists – Shaping the Future of Genomics in Africa
Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and founder of PAPERI at Pan- African PGS Education and Research Initiative, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“African Women Scientists: Shaping the Future of Genomics in Africa
We are proud to celebrate Dr. Haleemah Fathi Mohamed Alabdali from Libya, an oral medicine specialist and participant in the 10th Cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics course by the Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI).
Her reflection is a powerful reminder that:
Policies are not just words on paper—they are tools that determine who has access to life-changing genomic technologies.
Dr. Haleemah emphasizes:
The critical role of policy in enabling adoption of genetic and genomic testing.
The value of collaboration between policymakers, researchers, and healthcare professionals.
How genomics can transform oral health and overall patient care.
This is the first time Libya is represented in our course. And it matters—because increasing participation and awareness, especially among African women scientists, will be a cornerstone in shaping a more equitable and innovative future for our continent.”
