Sunbeds are Putting European Lives at Risk – European Cancer Organisation
European Cancer Organisation shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The evidence is indisputable!
Sunbeds are putting European lives at risk:
- 97% of women diagnosed with melanoma before age 30 have used sunbeds
- Individuals who use sunbeds have an 83% higher risk of developing skin cancer
Urgent action is needed!
The European Cancer Organisation and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) have sent letters to the European Commission (DG JUST and DG SANTE), calling for stronger EU-wide regulation of sunbeds.
We call on the Commission to:
- Finalise and implement the Recommendation to reduce UV exposure
- Ban sunbed use for minors across all EU countries
- Introduce robust consumer protection and safety regulations
- Reaffirm commitments under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan
Sunbed regulation is a matter of consumer protection and public health. It’s time to act.”
