“Why focus on alcohol-related liver cancer (ALD-HCC)?
Liver cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with only 15–20% of patients surviving beyond five years.
Alcohol-related hepatocellular carcinoma (ALD-HCC) is a major contributor – making up 90% of liver cancer cases and typically emerging in individuals with advanced liver disease (ALD).
The GENIAL Project, funded by Horizon Europe, is working to change these numbers through groundbreaking research into prevention, detection, and treatment.
