Voice of the Families: Mumbere’s Journey with Burkitt Lymphoma – CANCaRe Africa
CANCaRe Africa shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Voice of the families, post 40 Mumbere’s story
Mumbere is a 6-year-old boy who was brought in from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He was initially seen at several health facilities in the DRC before coming to us at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) in Western Uganda, where he was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma and started on treatment.
Hanyi is the first of 3 children, and all the others are well at home. The father is a casual laborer. The mother finished primary school in grade six and is a housewife.
Families who bring their children from across borders experience a lot of difficulties and find trouble completing their children’s treatment. Hanyi’s family’s ability to complete his treatment is a testament to their commitment to his recovery and the help of the financial support from the ‘Zero Abandonment’ project.
