Jennifer Douglas: Breast Cancer Decisions Aren’t Just Medical, They’re Personal

Jennifer Douglas, Writer and DCIS Breast Cancer Patient Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Breast cancer decisions aren’t just medical. They’re personal.

When I was diagnosed with DCIS, I was a homeschooling mom of two teenage boys.
My youngest had just started high school.
And I was the one leading their education.

So when my surgeon gave me options, I asked the deeper question:

What’s the most effective treatment that also lets me stay present for my sons?

After all the scans and conversations, I chose a lumpectomy.
It gave me confidence in the treatment – and the shortest path back to the life I loved.

When my youngest graduated high school, I cried.
Because we both made it.
That was my finish line, too.

I share this story to remind others: your values matter in your care plan. There is no one-size-fits-all decision. The best choice is the one that fits you.

Here’s how I made mine.”
