New Treatment Options for Glioblastoma – Mark Hughes Foundation Centre for Brain Cancer Research
Mark Hughes Foundation Centre for Brain Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Simin Zheng, a PhD student at the MHF Centre is working to uncover new treatment options for glioblastoma—one of the most aggressive and treatment-resistant brain cancers.
Simin is investigating how to enhance the effectiveness of standard therapies by targeting the tumour’s DNA repair ability.
‘My project looks at how we can make standard treatments like radiation and chemotherapy more effective by targeting the tumour’s ability to repair its DNA. These brain tumours are often very good at surviving treatment, so we’re testing existing, FDA approved drugs—ones that can cross the blood-brain barrier—to see if they can help block that repair process.’
Simin is driven by the hope of bringing safer, faster treatment options to patients through drug repurposing.
‘I really hope that one day the work I do in the lab can help people in the clinic. I want to keep doing research that connects science with real-world outcomes.’ “
