Elizabeth Ugwoma Awo-Ejeh: Let’s Break the Silence
Elizabeth Ugwoma Awo-Ejeh, Breast Cancer Survivor and Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I was born and raised in Zamfara State, in the northern part of Nigeria.
Throughout my years growing up there, I never heard anything about cancer…no awareness, no education, no early detection campaigns.
I didn’t even know what breast cancer really was until I was diagnosed with it in 2022 at the age of 25.
It wasn’t just a diagnosis – it was a rude awakening.
Even today, there are still many young people in rural parts of Nigeria who, like I once was, are unaware that breast cancer exists… or that it can happen to anyone, at any age.
But breast cancer is real. And early detection saves lives.
Today, I’m using my story – my scars, my survival, my strength – to raise awareness and speak up for those who haven’t found their voice yet.
If this message reaches just one person and sparks a conversation, a check-up, or a decision to learn more…then it’s worth it.
Let’s break the silence. Let’s educate. Let’s save lives.”
