Herbert Loong: Had an Opportunity to Introduce and Discuss Soft Tissue Sarcomas at Radio Television Hong Kong
Herbert Loong, Clinical Associate Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, shared a post on X:
“Thanks Radio Television Hong Kong for giving me the opportunity to introduce and discuss soft tissue sarcomas to the wider community. A group of rare diseases which benefits from awareness and specialist care.
Also had the opportunity to highlight our CUHK Medicine study that was published in ESMO Open some years ago look at comorbidities of patients with sarcomas.
We have identified that 10% of newly diagnosed sarcoma patients in Hong Kong had Diabetes Mellitus, 5% with history of CVA and 4% with IHD. More co-morbidities associated with poorer prognosis and survival, independent of age.
There maybe a role for GPs and primary care colleagues to be more involved in early detection and identification of at risk individuals.”
Title: Prevalence and prognostic impact of comorbidities and peripheral blood indices in sarcomas
