Valerie Yang Recognizes NUS Students for Research on Mucosal Melanoma and Psychological Outcomes in Rare Cancers
Valerie Yang, Senior Medical Oncologist at OncoCare Cancer Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Been meaning to say how proud I am of our medical undergraduate students for each winning their individual Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher prizes from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Chun En Yau won this for our work in mucosal melanoma evaluating therapeutic efficacy of treatments used in this rarer subset of melanomas that exhibit a different biology from the more common cutaneous melanomas. Immune check point inhibitors are still the most effective.
Chen Ee Low won this for our work across nearly 60,000 rare cancer patients, showing that psychological outcomes like depression, anxiety and suicide are exceedingly poor. Much more needs to be done!
Both papers were published in eClinical Medicine – The Lancet Discovery Science The Lancet Group. We had a fantastic time with excellent editors and it was good fun working together! Thank you for the opportunity.”
