To try and treat and even prevent these late effects of treatment for future generations of childhood cancer survivors – Victoria Forster
The chronic side-effects of childhood cancer treatment are now becoming more well-described, with increasing research focus. Although treatment advances mean more children than ever before are surviving cancer, we know that many childhood cancer survivors experience a host of age-related conditions on average earlier than the general population. I’ve always said, as a childhood cancer survivor now in my thirties, my life is somewhat of an experiment. What will happen to me in the future? It’s an open question, but I am happy that research is now being done to not only identify “what happens” but to try and treat and even prevent these late effects of treatment for future generations of childhood cancer survivors.
