More People Are Living Longer With Lung Cancer – Lung Cancer Europe
Lung Cancer Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:
“More people are living longer with lung cancer.
That’s progress. But it often means years of regular CT scans to monitor the disease.
A recent study in JAMA Internal Medicine suggests that repeated exposure to CT scan radiation may slightly raise the risk of future cancer. The risk from any one scan is low, but over time, it can add up.
Scans remain essential. But as survival improves, it’s important to consider safer long-term monitoring options.
Some researchers are exploring blood tests like ctDNA. These tests don’t use radiation and are already used to help guide treatment decisions.
They’re not yet widely used for ongoing monitoring, but they could play a role in the future.”
