Preeti Sudheendra, Clinical Director – Late Phase Breast Cancer Drug Development at Merck, made the following post on LinkedIn:
“Yet another piece of evidence that ultraprocessed foods are unhealthy. In this recent article by Fernanda Morales Berstein and the EPIC network, there was an association between consumption of ultraprocessed foods and head/neck cancers as well as esophageal cancers.
What is an ultraprocessed food or UPF? It is when food has been so heavily processed that it contains only extracts of the original food and typically has many unhealthy additives. The NOVA classification helps explain the categories of foods by how much they have been processed from Group 1 (whole foods or minimally processed foods) to Group 4 (ultraprocessed foods).”
