Bishal Gyawali: President Biden’s Diagnosis of Metastatic Prostate Cancer
Bishal Gyawali, Associate Professor at Queen’s University, shared a post on X:
“I am saddened to learn about President Biden’s diagnosis of what seems to be metastatic prostate cancer.
However, let’s please get away with the “fighter” metaphor. It’s harmful. This “fight” metaphor leads to excessive and harmful care. And choosing a treatment that prioritizes quality of life is not being “not a fighter” or giving up.
If you want to read more about this, see the links in the next post.”
Bishal Gyawali expressed concern over the use of combative language in cancer narratives, particularly in response to President Biden’s reported prostate cancer diagnosis. He emphasized that prioritizing quality of life should not be seen as a lack of resilience or determination.
