How well are older adults represented in European cancer guidelines? – New scoping review by the SIOG
SIOG – International Society of Geriatric Oncology shared a post on LinkedIn:
“How well are older adults represented in European cancer guidelines?
A new scoping review by the International Society of Geriatric Oncology, published in ESMO Open, reveals persistent gaps in how national guidelines address the complex needs of older adults with cancer.
Key insights:
- Wide regional disparities across Europe
- Limited guidance due to lack of evidence from older populations in RCTs
- A pressing need to include Geriatricians and expand Geriatric Oncology expertise in guideline development
With older adults accounting for the majority of cancer diagnoses, the time to act is now. Better representation in clinical guidelines isn’t just a priority—it’s a necessity.
