Sendurai Mani: We encounter people who leave a lasting impact; for me, one such person is Ms. Pat Tarantino

Sendurai Mani, Associate Director of Translational Oncology at Legorreta Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When love inspires action: Turning loss into purpose.

In life, we encounter people who leave a lasting impact – and sometimes, even those we never meet can profoundly influence us. For me, one such person is Ms. Pat Tarantino.

Though I never had the privilege of meeting her, pancreatic cancer took her life far too soon. From everything I’ve learned, she lived a remarkable life and deeply touched the hearts of many, especially her husband, Mr. John Tarantino.

Before her passing, Pat left her husband, Mr. John Tarantino, with a powerful message: ‘Do something to make a difference for pancreatic cancer – not for me, but for everyone suffering from this dreadful disease.’

John took those words to heart. In her honor, he has dedicated himself to the cause, working tirelessly and selflessly. As the CEO of Iylon Precision Oncology, he serves without compensation, driven solely by a mission to help others.

Pat passed away on April 16, 2022. In a powerful tribute, John pledged to complete 41,622 push-ups last April – symbolizing the month (4), date (16), and year (22) of her passing. To meet this goal, he did nearly 1,387 push-ups a day to honor her memory and fulfill her wish. His extraordinary effort raised over $100,000 for cancer research and treatment.

Thank you, Pat, for inspiring a movement through your courage and compassion. And thank you, Mr. John Tarantino, for turning that inspiration into meaningful action that brings hope to cancer patients everywhere.”
