Douglas Flora: “Change is not the enemy. Stagnation is.” – Our Iceberg Is Melting
Douglas Flora, President-Elect at Association of Cancer Care Centers, shared on LinkedIn:
” ‘Change is not the enemy. Stagnation is.’ — Our Iceberg Is Melting
Last week I shared this classic by John Kotter thinking everyone had read it… only to discover many on my own team hadn’t. And in a time like this – where change isn’t coming, it’s already here – that felt like a missed opportunity.
So this morning, everyone gets a copy.
The beauty of Our Iceberg Is Melting lies in its simplicity: a fable about a group of penguins facing a melting iceberg that delivers powerful lessons on change, leadership, and adaptation. No jargon. No lectures. Just a story that sticks – and sparks real conversations.
Sharing books like this with friends and colleagues is one of my favorite things in my role. A huge thank you to my wife, Andrea Flora, who knows me well enough to have a personalized embosser made for me as a great gift. Every book gifted now comes with a personal stamp – literally and metaphorically.
So let me ask you:
In your institution, which penguin are you?
Are you the one spotting the cracks, the one rallying the team – or the one still clinging to the iceberg?”
