It is so nice to work in myeloma because we have such a close and collaborative community – Wee Joo Chng

Currently in Barcelona with colleagues around the world, attending an invite-only workshop organised by the International Myeloma Society to define high risk myeloma disease.

Excellent discussions and so nice to see people working in the same field physically. Over the COVID period, we have read and follow each other’s papers and work, and for some, especially those from different continents, are meeting for the first time!

I have said it before and will say it again. It is so nice to work in myeloma because we have such a close and collaborative community.

We debate and argue over many controversial and challenging areas but at the end of the day will always find a way forward that will help patients and clinical management but also set the stage for future directions.

We do not stop, always seeking a way forward. Maybe that is one of the key reasons why so much progress has been made in myeloma. It is the people, and the leaders in the field such as Nikhil Munshi, Jesus San Miguel, Brian Durie, Vincent Rajkumar, Ken Andersen and many others, that is the secret sauce driving the field forward!
