Armando Orlandi: European Breast Cancer Mortality Trends 2025

“Breaking Research: European Breast Cancer Mortality Trends 2025.

Insights from a comprehensive new study on cancer mortality predictions in Europe, with a special focus on breast cancer:

Key Breast Cancer Findings:
EU breast cancer mortality rates have fallen by an impressive 30% since 1990
• Substantial decreases predicted for women aged 50-69 (-9.8%) and 70-79 (-12.4%) by 2025
• An estimated 373,000 breast cancer deaths averted between 1989-2025 in the EU
• In the UK specifically, around 197,000 breast cancer deaths prevented during the same period

What’s Driving These Positive Trends?
• Advances in treatment protocols and management
• Improvements in organized screening programs
• Earlier detection and diagnosis
• Novel adjuvant therapies and monoclonal antibodies

Challenges Remain:
• Rates for women aged 80+ years still increasing (+9.8%)
• Despite declining rates, the absolute number of breast cancer deaths continues to rise due to population aging and growth

This research underscores the significant progress we’ve made, while highlighting the continued need for focused interventions, particularly among older women. The study also analyzed trends for other major cancer types across the EU and UK through 2025.”
