Sarah Louden: A Different Take on Women in Leadership
Sarah Louden, CEO and Founder of Total Health Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A Different Take on Women in Leadership: Might Surprise Some.
I hosted a panel at Best of Breast called ‘Women in Oncology,’ where I had the privilege of speaking with the incredible Drs. Reshma Mahtani, Ruta Rao, and Rita Nanda. We covered a lot, and I’ll share the session once it’s edited, but I wanted to come on and share something that might go against an expected narrative.
I once heard Judge Judy Sheindlin talk about feminism, and it resonated deeply with me. She said she never saw her success as being about proving herself as a woman – she just worked hard. I’ve felt the same way. I never approached leadership as ‘me against the men.’ My focus has always been on excellence, intention, and impact.
Yes, women often carry more caregiving responsibilities, whether for kids, aging parents, or both. I respect that. But I reject the idea that we are fundamentally different in ways that limit or define us. I’ve been fortunate to build, grow, and lead not as a ‘woman leader’ but as a leader – period. My job is to create a space where everyone I work with can thrive, advance, and succeed.
And as a boy mom, I’m just as intentional in raising my kids to know that no one owes them anything – what they achieve will always be a reflection of what they invest – in themselves, and in others.
Would love to hear your thoughts.”
