“Ever wondered how the EU-funded projects we contribute to work to beat cancer?
Earlier this month, our team participated in a special event organised by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) to showcase how these projects bridge the gaps between research and policy.
Speaking at a panel discussion, our Executive Director Wendy Yared and Doc. Dr. Urska Ivanus, MD (Association of Slovenian Cancer Societies, an ECL member) shared some key insights:
Science alone is not enough. Good data is essential, but must be used effectively to drive impactful policy change.
40% of all cancer cases are preventable. Investments in EU-projects that help reduce risk factors through policy recommendations are essential.
Cancer leagues and other civil society actors play a pivotal role in the shaping of EU-funded efforts to combat cancer. Sustainable funding is crucial to ensure civil society remains a strong and independent voice.
