“Last week, on World Cancer Day, I had the pleasure of attending the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) project showcase, and participating in the Youth Dialogue with Youth Cancer Europe and Childhood Cancer International – Europe. It is safe to say that it was an absolute dream come true.
We had the opportunity to meet with European Commissioner, Olivér Várhelyi to discuss the critical and special needs of AYAs in cancer care across Europe, and overlooked group in the cancer care landscape.
As a group of 20 young adults with lived cancer experiences, we shared our thoughts, ideas and stories, highlighting what urgently needs to change in Europe’s the healthcare system.
The most exciting part?
He’s already committed to meeting with us again next year, ensuring that our work doesn’t stop here and that there’s no escaping the follow-up questions.
We are more than the scans, the appointments, the diagnoses, the illness, the treatment… We are more than just numbers; we are human beings, and we are Europe’s future.”
