Roughly 1% of vaccines administered in Africa are manufactured in Africa. How can we move the needle on this?
A recent article in Vaccine discusses the history and future of vaccine manufacturing in Africa. Local production and developing a sustainable manufacturing infrastructure are central to meeting the expected 3x increase in vaccine demand over the next 20 years. To achieve this, collaboration with multinational, philanthropic, and private sector partners is needed to help drive the full spectrum of biopharmaceutical development activities that address substantial global health concerns like tuberculosis and malaria.
