Singapore National Cancer Center is setting the standard for quality measurement in South Asia – Arif H. Kamal

The quest for goal-concordant care for all facing a serious illness is an international one. It is one that connects the entire human race.

Ong Ye Kung, Minister of Health of Singapore, speaks to the bevy of programs in their country under the concept of (what my colleague Laura Makaroff termed) “anti-suffering initiatives”. At American Cancer Society our recent announcements of the CARES and PAWS programs are just that – going where suffering is and creating person-centric solutions.

Minister Kung discussed a national strategy around palliative care, caregiver training, respite capacity, and free home-based palliative care for all, announced at the 8th Singapore Palliative Care Conference today.

Further, was pleased to participate in a robust discussion regarding quality measurement in supportive oncology with my colleagues (and new friends) at the Singapore National Cancer Center. They are setting the standard for quality measurement in South Asia.

Congratulations to my colleagues in Singapore who are leading the world through their example.
