Xiuning Le: The number of newly diagnosed female lung cancer cases has surpassed that of males
Xiuning Le, Deputy Section Chief of Thoracic Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on X about recent article by Rebecca Siegel, Senior Scientific Director of Surveillance Research at the American Cancer Society, published in CA – A Cancer Journal for Clinicians:
“Cancer statistics, 2025.
For the first time, the number of newly diagnosed female lung cancer cases has surpassed that of males. This significant increase, particularly among women under the age of 49, is largely driven by diagnoses in young women who have never smoked.
Many of these cases are associated with oncogene-driven lung cancer.”
