Lisa A. Lacasse: The American Cancer Society’s Cancer Statistics report
Lisa A. Lacasse, President of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), reshared a post by American Cancer Society Journal on LinkedIn:
“The American Cancer Society‘s Cancer Statistics report is a critical data source that informs American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)‘s advocacy.
The 2025 report released today continues to underscore the need for public policy interventions to help reduce cancer disparities and save more lives.
We urge lawmakers at all levels of government to advance policies that ensure more people have health insurance coverage as well as improved access to and affordability of care, including increased funding for cancer research and screening programs.”
Quoting American Cancer Society Journal‘s post:
“The 2025 American Cancer Society Cancer Statistics report, published today in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, provides the latest insights into cancer incidence, mortality, and disparities in the United States.
Key findings:
- A 34% decline in cancer mortality since 1991 has averted approximately 4.5 million deaths.
- Rising cancer incidence among women and younger adults is shifting the cancer burden.
- Stark disparities persist, with cancer mortality rates 2-3 times higher in some racial and ethnic groups.
The authors emphasize the importance of sustained efforts in cancer prevention, research, and equitable access to care.
