Sidra Naz has been honored with the 2025 Early Career Investigator Award in Healthcare Disparities Research in IBD

Sidra Naz, Research Fellow at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Dr. Sidra Naz MD, a distinguished research fellow at the top-notch No 1-ranked University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, for cancer care has been honored with the 2025 Early Career Investigator Award in Healthcare Disparities Research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

This prestigious recognition, presented by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and the American Gastroenterological Association, celebrates emerging leaders advancing science and patient care in IBD. Each year, a limited number of candidates – only 10—are chosen to receive this prestigious recognition.

Dr. Naz will present her groundbreaking research to an international audience at the Crohn’s and Colitis Congress 2025 on February 7, 2025, in San Francisco, California. This event highlights advancements in patient care and research led by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, an international leading organization dedicated to the prevention and cure of IBD.

Dr. Naz’s achievements reflect the outstanding mentorship of Dr. Mehnaz Shafi MD, a Professor and Interim Chair of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Under Dr. Shafi’s leadership, the department has achieved remarkable milestones, ranking 14th globally in the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

Dr. Shafi is a renowned investigator and Director of the Gastric Electrical Stimulation Program at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. She has co-authored the American College of Gastroenterology’s guidelines on gastroparesis management.

She is the PI for the largest prospective clinical trial for the use of Domperidone in gastroparesis and serves as the principal investigator (PI) for multiple landmark clinical trials, including an NIH-prospective multicenter study on Barrett’s esophagus.

This collective excellence underscores MD Anderson’s enduring leadership in gastroenterology and cancer care, advancing both innovative treatments and impactful research.”
