Akhil Santhosh: FOWARC trial questions the role of RT in rectal cancer

Akhil Santhosh, Medical Oncology Specialist at MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute and Post DM senior resident at AIIMS, New Delhi, posted the following on X:

“The 10-year results of FOWARC published in JCO ASCO today.

  • No difference in DFS, LR, and OS between 5FU-RT, FOLFOX-RT, and FOLFOX alone for LA rectal cancer
  • Second study after PROSPECT questioning the role of RT
  • More LAR syndrome and persistent ostomy in CRT compared to chemo alone.”
