Heidi Ko: The distinct metabolic pathways in 149 real-world breast cancer samples

Heidi Ko, Medical Director, Medical Affairs, shared on LinkedIn

“Come see me at poster session 3, 1-24

Our study investigated the distinct metabolic pathways in 149 real-world breast cancer samples.

Gene expression data for 395 immune-related genes were collected using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). Metabolic signatures for various pathways (carbohydrate, lipid, protein, and vitamin/cofactor metabolism) were calculated based on gene expression.

What did we find?

TNBC was found to be more metabolically active overall compared to non-TNBC, with significant differences in lipid, protein, and vitamin/cofactor metabolism.

The survival effects vary depending on the specific metabolic pathway involved. Certain metabolic signatures were associated with better survival outcomes in both TNBC and non-TNBC cohorts.

As we look into the future, an improved understanding of the metabolic and tumor immune microenvironment of breast cancer may facilitate a more nuanced characterization of molecular subtypes and development of therapeutic strategies targeting these pathways.

Thanks for stopping by, Kai Pollard! ”
