Laura Ortiz-Ravick: Proud to have represented The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at ASH24
Laura Ortiz-Ravick, Director of Outreach and Health Promotion at The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am proud to have represented The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a co-author of the abstract poster, ‘A Patient Perspective on Actionable Steps to Addressing Disparities in Healthcare Among US Patients With Multiple Myeloma,’ sponsored by Pfizer and presented at this year’s American Society of Hematology meeting.’
The poster offered actionable recommendations aimed at improving care for disadvantaged patients and addressing historic inequities. Key strategies included fostering strong patient-provider relationships, enhancing cultural humility among healthcare providers, and ensuring patients are fully informed about treatment options, including clinical trials.
It also emphasized improving access to specialist care, telehealth, and clinical trials, while empowering patients with advocacy and educational support.
It was an honor to attend the poster presentation at ASH in San Diego alongside its lead author, Oya G., and Dr. Brandon Blue. This project exemplifies the power of collaboration and the dedication required to confront healthcare inequities. Its acceptance at ASH was a significant milestone in amplifying patient voices and advocating for equitable care.
I extend my deepest gratitude to Robert Ruckman and my co-authors: Oya G., Jack Aiello, Jim Omel, Pamela Price, Audrey Davis, LPC, PM-LPC, Emily Gentry, Richa Shah, Elpitha Soussou, and Brandon Blue. Your collaborative efforts were instrumental in bringing this project to life.
Through this work, we honor the irreplaceable Jack Aiello, whose enduring legacy and contributions to patient advocacy continue to inspire us – rest in peace, Jack.”
