Tracey O’Brien: 2024 NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research
Tracey O’Brien, NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, Australia, shared a post LinkedIn:
“Last night the Cancer Institute NSW was proud to host the 2024 NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research.
Uniting an extraordinary assembly of talent, the eight awards recognised incredible people and teams for their passion, expertise and commitment to fuelling breakthroughs in cancer and changing lives.
Last night marked 18 years of these prestigious awards, a tradition started by Premier Morris Iemma, with the baton passed along to seven subsequent Premiers – highlighting the vital importance of cancer research for the people of NSW.
We were honoured to be joined by our 47th Premier the Hon Chris Minns as well as Minister for Health, The Hon Ryan Park and Minister for Medical Research and Aboriginal Affairs, The Hon David Harris.
Inspiring everyone in the room were two of NSW’s former winners and Co-Australians of the Year, Professor Richard Scolyer AO and Professor Georgina Long AO.
A record number of applications were received this year, and I’d like to congratulate all the finalists and winners, including Professor David Thomas, who received the night’s top award – NSW Outstanding Cancer Researcher of the Year – for his globally leading work in cancer genomics, precision medicine and sarcoma research.
Visit the Cancer Institute NSW website for more on this year’s winners.”
